Olivscent aims to be a cultural bridge between diverse communities and Dutch society.
We do this through our handcrafted products, the rich history behind them, and our interactive workshops, creating more inclusive workplaces and fostering understanding through storytelling and historical connections.
Olivscent offers handmade, natural, and plastic-free Aleppo soaps, crafted by Syrian artisans, women, and men who have resettled in Turkey after the civil war.
Our mission is to empower these talented individuals, helping them preserve the timeless 2,000-year-old Aleppo soap tradition while providing for their families.
By honouring this heritage, Olivscent keeps the craft alive and shares the positive stories behind it, using storytelling to celebrate resilience, cultural identity, and the cultural connections that link past and present.

Our ingredients
Aleppo soap ingredients
The main ingredients are olive oil and laurel oil, combined with plant-derived lye, and essential oils.
The mixture is cooked over a low heat, allowing the fats to saponify completely. Once saponification is
complete, the soap paste is poured into wooden molds and left to dry for a period ranging from weeks to
a year. This long period allows the soap to acquire its solid consistency and valuable skin-beneficial
properties.
Properties of Aleppo soap
Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, which help keep the skin soft and hydrated.
Laurel oil, on the other hand, has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties, making this
soap ideal for people with skin problems such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis. The absence of chemical additives
and preservatives also makes it particularly suitable for those who suffer from allergies. Regular use of Aleppo soap can help improve the appearance of the skin, thanks to its ability to regulate
sebum production and maintain the skin's natural balance.
Aleppo soap offers six main benefits provided by the two essential oils, promoting the following actions:
• Emollient: making the skin softer and more elastic;
• Soothing: helping to reduce irritation and skin disorders;
• Moisturizing: protects the skin from the effects of dehydration by preserving the hydrolipidic film present in the skin layer;
• Antiseptic: thoroughly cleanses the epidermis, ensuring an antimicrobial effect thanks to laurel oil;
• Elasticizing: ensures a more toned and compact appearance of the skin;
• Cleansing: removes dirt without altering the skin's natural balance;
• Purifying: helps normalize the skin layer by freeing it from impurities.
